  • Belt Line Light and Landscape Enhancements Will Make Addison a Little Greener

    Share

Efforts to update the look and feel of Belt Line Road in Addison will have a decidedly green aspect. This month, the Town of Addison begins a project to provide more efficient lighting while introducing sustainable landscaping to the Town’s main thoroughfare.

Existing roadway lights in the median will be replaced by 136 new fixtures on 76 poles. Light poles will feature a large radius bend to offer a unique look. Sixteen poles will have a large radius curve over their entire length and will be installed in sets of two. Landscaping enhancements will include sustainable shrubs and groundcovers such as Moonbay Nandina and Gulf Muhly Grass.

Changes will be made to the median areas from Dallas North Tollway to Marsh Lane, creating intermittent lane closures, mostly after the early morning rush and before the evening commute. Work should be completed by early 2012.

Use a layer of organic mulch around plants to reduce evaporation and save hundreds of gallons of water a year. When you need to add or replace a flower or shrub, choose a low water use plant and save up to 550 gallons of water a year.
