Through a lengthy and sometimes painful public birth process, the Chevrolet Volt was often the target of criticism and second-guessing.
That all changed this week. The extended-range electric car that is just coming to market won three major awards this week and is drawing crowds of admirers.
The landmark new General Motors car was named Car of the Year by Motor Trend magazine, Automobile of the year by Automobile magazine, as well as winning the Green Car of the Year annual award at the Los Angeles Auto Show. In taking the latter award from the Green Car Journal, the Volt beat out the Nissan Leaf, the Ford Fiesta, Hyundai’s Sonata Hybrid and Lincoln’s MKZ Hybrid.
At a stop in Washington, D.C. during its 5,400 kilometer cross country driving tour, people lined up to get a peek at the new Chevrolet:
