If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then surely new functionality can be found in an item that would seem to have outlived its usefulness.

Some Addison youth put that concept and their own creativity to the test on April 16th during the “Trash to Treasure Earth Day Celebration” at the Addison Athletic Club.

Participants converted used-up household items into items that can be used around the house. Some created bird feeders out of plastic bottles, straws, beads and string; others conjured up purses or piggy banks out of used milk cartons.

Just like that, everything old was new again.

Adding a touch of style and color was part of the fun, too. Pizza was served, and kids were treated to a screening of the award-winning film, Wall-E.
