  • Dispose of Unwanted Chemicals at Home Chemical Collection Day

    Ready to get rid of some potentially dangerous household chemicals, but you aren’t quite sure how to go about it? A group of North Texas cities joined together to make life a bit easier for you by holding Home Chemical Collection Day on Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1441 W. Trinity Mills at Blanton in Carrollton, in the parking lot next to Anderson Furniture Store.

    The disposal process is free of charge to residents of the following cities: Addison, Carrollton, Dallas, DeSoto, Duncanville, Farmers Branch, Garland, Highland Park, Irving, Mesquite, Richardson, Rowlett, Sachse, Seagoville, Sunnyvale, University Park and Unincorporated Dallas County.

    Participants must bring a driver’s license and utility bill as proof of residence. For those from non-participating cities, a $95 minimum disposal fee will apply.

    Items eligible include:

    • Pool and yard chemicals
    • Craft/hobby supplies
    • Batteries of all kind
    • Automotive fluids, oil filters, gasoline
    • Paint and other home repair products
    • Household cleaners and polishes
    • Fluorescent light tubes

    Items not eligible:

    • Business waste
    • Used tires
    • Smoke detectors
    • Radioactive materials
    • Containers larger than five gallons
    • Explosive or shock sensitive materials
    • Trash or non-chemical recyclables (no paper, aluminum, plastic or glass)
    • Electronics
    • Medical waste

    The event is sponsored by the County of Dallas, City of Carrollton, and Cities of the Dallas Area Household Hazardous Waste Network. Those unable to attend on the 24th are welcome to visit the Home Chemical Collection Center at 11234 Plano Rd. in Northeast Dallas between Miller Rd. and Forest Lane.
